Software is the most important part of a computer application. There are many important criteria in selecting computer hardware and all of them are important and should be taken into considerations. Some software has a very short lifecycle and others can be used long after the lifecycle. This can force users to continuously have to update their software.

Max has to perform a performance review on Stan. Stan is extremely nervous and is sweating. Max has been on the IT team for 9 months. Stan’s interpersonal skills need a lot of work. Stan’s behavior is causing problems. He has been sent to seminars but his behavior does not seem to change. Team leaders do not want Stan on their teams even though he is great as a technician. Max was not able to come up with anything beneficial to motivate Stan. Max was disappointed he could not be the leader that Stan needed him to be. He learned that night from Professor Sensei that as a leader you need to ask from others how you can improve.

Multimedia allows for multiple intelligences. It allows for different brain functions to be reached at the same time.  Multimedia appeals to both teachers and students. Multimedia allows for teacher to uses audio and visuals easily together. There are many educational multimedia projects that are already made and can be used. Teachers can also create their own multimedia applications. There are a lot of resources available to teachers.  It is important for teachers to realize it will take time to make their own application and that they need to be careful of copyright infringement.

Chapter 8

Distance learning is becoming more popular. Distance learning is not a new thing it has been around for a while. Educators are able to select or blend different technologies to better suit the needs of their students.

Max was having a rough day; nothing was going right at school. The router was down and the teachers could not get the Internet. The teachers were not happy about not being able to get online. He was dreading to go to class. Once he was there the mysterious professor Oracle began class by having them compete in a team building exercise. It is important for teams and staff to have a strong sense of community. It is important for teams to feel each other’s successes and disappointments. When teams work together at an emotional attachment level they perform best. Max was surprised by Professor Oracle’s Knowledge and began to relax. Max realized that he can learn a lot from his professor.

Hardware and software are very important components of the data infrastructure. The most important is the fact that data can be shared from anywhere in the school district. Information can also be shared easily. Data driven decision-making can be applied to almost any school related activities. It is important for schools to evaluate decision processes in a school district.

Chapter 6

All school districts have made an investment in technology. However each school district has a varying level of technology integration. Investments in technology will continue to increase. It is important for schools to teach students the importance of technology and what they can do with it. Instructional technology can be difficult to perform correctly. It is important for teacher to have the proper training and knowledge in order for students to be taught correctly. Instructional applications are being created everyday, so it is requiring teacher to constantly be learning new applications.

Technology is changing the face of education. Technology should be used to support classroom instruction. Classroom Management is important for teachers using technology. Teaching with technology means the teacher needs to change their teaching strategies.  Technology allows multiple learning strategies to be used at the same time. Technology when used/works correctly allows for students to learn more efficiently and effectively. Technology is the future of the education platform.

Max walks into class. He is trying to figure out where to sit. He chooses a spot in the middle, not to close the front. Max’s seat location according to him is ready to learn but not a teacher’s pet.  The professor Sensei walks into the room and the whole class quiets down. He begins his lecture he states that in order to be successful technology leader. Question need to be asked and then addressed. Theory is a key in technology leadership. Theory allows a group to define a clear vision of what they want to accomplish. The vision is the map; it needs to be clear and concise. The educational leaders role is to define, create, and manage the vision. The vision and the plan need to expand and work/develop together. It is important for the technology leader to apply the plan. The plan needs constant monitoring and developing. All things need to be aligned in order for the system operates correctly. It is the technology leaders responsibility to make sure things go from good to GREAT.

Knowledge is power. This statement means that you should gain knowledge in order to better serve your school and your job. There are many administrative uses for computer systems. It is important for all of them to function well together. Database management systems are critical for computer systems to be integrated with each other. The applications are easy to use. They also allow school to function better and easier with data information, when operated correctly.

Leadership

Leadership is extremely important to a functioning society. I loved how the first book The Technology Director’s Guide to leadership, in chapter 1 tells a story about a quest for leadership skills.  Max is trying to find out how to be a great leader. He decides to take a class about leadership. Max goes to three professors in search of leadership knowledge. The first professor disappoints him. The second professor disappoints him even more. The third he likes and makes him realize that it is important to learn from everything around you. Also, that just because you don’t think it is the right way it doesn’t mean that it is the wrong way. It is also an important characteristic of a leader to ask questions and seek the answers.

Educational Leadership and Planning for Technology was a little harder to read. It is more facts and statistics than a story. It has a lot of great information and statistics that I did not know. It really helps put in perspective issues with technology.

Chapter 1

Technology in education needs to have a purpose. It also needs to be integrated into all aspects of the school. Technology in school is constantly changing. It is expensive but necessary to keep up. Unfortunately, it is hard for schools to keep up with the changing technology. Technology in education can be divided in to Administrative and Educational. Administrational progresses much more quickly. Educational technology is being invested in by school but is still having issues with implementation and teaching philosophies. It is important for the school systems to understand the cost of having technology in their school system. It is not just an initial cost but ongoing cost that can be just as expensive.

Chapter 2

It is important for the schools systems to plan for technology. It is important that parents, teachers and school staff participate in the planning steps. There are many different software applications for different needs. So specific goals and objective can be made with technology. Organization is one of the most important things when it comes to technology. Even the most advanced educational technology will fail a school system with out organization.
